The Labrador Retriever ranks as one of the most popular breeds in the world and
its superb temperament and intelligence make it an ideal family companion. Labs
are “people” dogs and you will find that “second-hand Labs make first-rate friends.”
So how do you adopt a Labrador from Lone Star Lab Rescue?
First, look over our dogs on our Available Labs page to see if any of our Labradors available
for adoption meet what you are looking for.
Second, come out to one of our Meet and Greets to meet our Labs available for adoption.
The Meet and Greets are a great way to have your family and family dogs meet our Labradors.
Please bring the entire gang. Our Meet and Greets are held almost every Saturday. Please check our schedule for time,
location, map and Labradors that will be at booth.
Third, if you are seriously interested in adopting a Labrador, we ask that you PLEASE fill out an Adoption Application.
Note: our Adoption Application is NOT compatible with the Safari browser so please use any other alternative brower,
such as Microsoft Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. We apologize for any inconveniences.
Even if we do not have exactly the Labrador that you would like to adopt, we encourage you to apply.
We often have other Labradors in our program that are not ready to be listed, but might be a good match for your family.
Putting in your application, even though you do not have a specific Lab in mind, will help us work with you to find the right Labrador for your family.
If you are interested in a Labrador that is marked “Adoption Pending” on our Available Labs or Home Page, you are welcome to put in an application.
Occasionally an adoption might not work out & that dog will become available again. Please understand that your application will be a 'back-up'
for that particular Labrador or, we just may have another Lab in our program that is a great fit for your family too.
Note: Only one completed adoption application is needed per family, even if you are interested in multiple Labs in our program.
SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY, PLEASE. We are a small organization, and although we love doing this, this takes up much of our time.
Please be sure you're ready and prepared for a Lab before you complete an application. Adopting a dog shouldn't be done on a whim -- this is potentially a 12-14 year commitment!
Next Steps After You Submit An Online Adoption Application...
Once you submit your online Adoption Application, it will be emailed to us.
Once received, it will be reviewed to determine if your home is a good match for this breed. We will send you an email to let you know your
application has been received, so please ensure you provide us an email address on your application. If you forgot, please send
us an email at
adoptions@lonestarlabrescue.org so that we have your email address.
Upon review of your application, if it looks like a Lab would work in your home, you will be contacted by phone to talk about your family
and what kind of temperament and activity level you are looking for in a Lab. If we have a Lab in our program that meets the criteria,
we will suggest you and all of your family (including children and family dogs) come to our Saturday Meet and Greets to meet
the Lab(s).
Once you have met the dogs at a Meet and Greet and found/confirm a Lab that seems to be a good fit for your family,
a home visit will be scheduled. If at all possible, we will bring the specific Lab that you are interested in adopting with us to the
home visit, but this may not always be the case. If a home study is not scheduled at the Meet and Greet, a volunteer will contact you to make arrangements. The purpose of the home study is for the volunteer to come out to your house to see if it is a suitable place for our rescued Labrador and fits with your family’s lifestyle too. Depending on the Labrador’s temperament, you must have either a fenced yard (majority of the cases) or have close access to a dog park and/or be willing to walk/jog daily with the Lab.
Please understand that we do NOT work on a “first come, first served” basis. Our primary focus is to find the very best home for each specific Labrador.
We work hard to make sure that each Lab is happy in his home and every family member in your family is happy with your new Labrador too!
Adoption Requirements...
All LSLRR Labs will be kept primarily “inside” as companion dogs and members of the family. The Lab will not be kept outside when the adopter is away from home.
Depending on the temperament of the specific Lab, adopters must agree to crate their dog inside the house for as long as recommended, to ensure the safety of both the dog and the house.
Adopters will provide regular veterinary care and annual vaccinations by a licensed veterinarian.
Adopters will keep their dogs on heartworm prevention year round, and flea & tick prevention as needed.
Adopters must have a securely fenced yard or play area.
All dogs must wear an ID tag at ALL times.
All dogs in the adoptive home must be spayed or neutered.
Adopters must live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
Our Dogs...
All LSLRR Labs are micro-chipped, spayed or neutered if age appropriate, current on all vaccinations and taking heartworm prevention. Each dog will receive fecal and heartworm tests, and will have been treated if necessary, for internal parasites such as hookworms or tapeworms. If a dog tests positive for heartworms, it will be treated and will not be available for adoption until it has been returned to good health. Documentation of all medical care and vaccinations will be provided to the adopter.
LSLRR dogs live in a home environment with a foster family. Fosters will do basic crate training, obedience training, and socialize the dog. Fosters make every effort to evaluate the dog's personality and temperament. This makes it easier to match each rescue dog with a prospective adopter's family. The foster will share all known information with the prospective adopter, including medical records.
Our Labs are micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and treated for any health issues. To help cover these medical costs, our adoption fee is $250.00 ($350.00 for puppies). Please understand that this fee rarely even covers this medical care. Any donations above the adoption fee are greatly appreciated!
