Crosby is approximately one year old and weighs 60 lbs. He was rescued from a city shelter where he stayed, hoping someone would come to claim him. Well someone did! LSLRR, and we’re so glad we did. Crosby is an affectionate, playful boy who is everything you would expect in a young Lab. He immediately likes everyone and loves to give kisses with great enthusiasm.

He's all playful puppy as you might expect, and very funny to watch. He's bouncy, and he loves balls. Crosby tries all he can to engage his foster brother, also a Lab, into a wrestling match. He is crate trained and he has never once barked inside the house or crate. He does well with young children and has a high tolerance of being played with, even roughly. He shows signs of wanting to be dominant and will need a firm handler or else he might easily try to run the show with all his puppy energy + dominant tendency.

He will sit and shake hands/paws on command. Snapping your fingers and saying “sit” works the best. He needs work with his leash skills, but appears to have above average intelligence, so he’ll learn quickly. Sweet Honey Bee was born on the 4th of July! Well almost. Honey Bee, or Honey for short, was born July 3, 2006 and weighs about 80 lbs. This two-year- old girl is being surrendered by her family because they no longer have time for her. She is housebroken and crate trained.

Honey is good with other dogs, as well as children and cats. This girl loves to play ball so her new family must have a member with a good throwing arm. She responds to basic commands, but obedience training would make Honey the perfect girl.
|
|
Honey has always lived in the house with her family and that’s the way she likes it. Honey will make a loyal, loving companion. All she needs is a person or family who has the resources and time to devote to this wonderful girl. Maxey is a casualty of the economy. His family lost their home and had to surrender their beloved Lab to a city shelter. This very friendly black boy is approximately 2-3 years old and currently weighs 118 lbs, much too much for a dog his size. He definitely needs to drop about 20-30 lbs. and this will take time. He is currently on a lite food and exercise is in his future.

However exercise should not be a problem for Maxey because he loves to chase a ball and bring it back to you; he just can’t do it very long before he gets winded. He has had obedience training, but this definitely needs to be reinforced. He will sit on command. Maxey is housebroken and does well in a crate.

Maxey’s world as he knew it has changed, but he’s taking it like a champ. He’s ready to go to a new home and start a new life. Maxey would make a wonderful walking companion. Yeager is a two-year-old, yellow boy who was taken to a mid-cities shelter when his owner could no longer provide the kind of home and environment Yeager needs. He is housebroken, good with children, other dogs, and cats. He weighs approximately 90 lbs.
|

Yeager received good medical care while in his prior home and he is a healthy boy. He rides well in a car and is good on a leash. We don’t know if he has had any obedience training, but he is well behaved. A yard with at least a six foot fence is necessary. Chewing was not reported to be a problem at his last home.
|
|
It’s now time for this handsome boy to find a person or family who can provide the type of home this boy needs and deserves. He wants to be part of a family, not a part of the yard. Now in foster care, Foster is doing famously. He lives with a cat and another dog who he adores. Foster, who loves everyone and everything, is crate trained and is most content when he is sitting next to his foster being petted. But when he hears his favorite squeaky toy, he is on the run to get it. Additionally, Foster loves riding in the car.

|
Foster is not a Lone Star Labrador Retriever Rescue dog. All animals are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, micro-chipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption.

Ebony is a sweet, petite, 16-month-old female Lab. She survived a house fire but became homeless because of it. She went from living in the home as a beloved part of the family to being tied to a tree outside. From there she was taken to a north Texas city shelter.
|
|
|
Because of this ordeal, Ebony is probably confused and wondering what happened to her home and family. However, she is showing us that she is very resilient. As would be expected, she lost weight during this ordeal, but we are working to put this weight back on her.
|
|
Ebony is eager to please and seems very smart, so she will learn the rules in a new home very quickly. She gets along well with other dogs and she loves to play fetch. Aspen is a 72 lb., two-year-old handsome yellow Lab who was taken to a city shelter after his family moved away, leaving him in the backyard. We don’t know how long he was left alone without someone to care for him, but he is a healthy boy, just underweight. He needs to gain 5-8 lbs.
|
|
Aspen is a friendly boy to every person and every dog he meets. Since he is new to our program, we don’t know how his manners are in a house, but we do know that he is very sweet and very calm for a dog his age. He walks well on a leash, willingly goes in a dog crate, and rides very well in a car.
|
|
|

Molly is about 7 years old and on a scale of 10, she is a 9.5 for being a wonderful family dog. Molly has only one problem. She has severe thunderstorm anxiety and had to be surrendered by her family because they have three small children and simply were unable to handle the problem. Before they surrendered her, however, they contacted a veterinarian who specializes is behavior management. Molly has been prescribed medicine for this anxiety as well as a behavior modification and de-sensitization program.

Lone Star Lab Rescue is looking for a person or a family who might want to work with Molly. She is a dog that dreams are made of until a thunderstorm rolls through. Working with Molly would be a great experience for someone wanting to start a career in dog training or behavior management. Lone Star Lab Rescue would handle all expenses.

A second solution to this problem would be to find Molly a home in a part of the country where there are few if any thunderstorms. It is reported that Southern California seems to be thunderstorm free. Does anyone know anyone in such a place who is looking for a great family dog? She is great with children of all ages. Ridge is an 86 pound furry ball of love that came out of a local shelter. He is about 3 years old and is an extremely personable dog. He gets along well with other dogs. Right now his favorite part of each day is being in doggie day care with other Labs , Golden Retrievers and Great Danes. He also gets along well with children and has all the makings of a great family dog.
Ridge has one problem. He suffers from severe separation anxiety when his people leave him. He gets very upset, can break out of his crate and can be very destructive.

Ridge would be a terrific dog in a retirement home or an assisted living facility where someone is around both day and night. Or, he would be great in the country where he could be in the house or ride around in someone’s truck all day. And, when he had to be left alone he could be put in a secure, escape proof kennel outside. He will howl, wail and bark in a situation like that so we think he would be better in a more rural area where neighbors won’t be disturbed.

Charlie is a very sweet & loving Lab mix who is about 1 ½ years old. He was pulled from a city shelter and has gone from a dog who was literally petrified with fear, to a very friendly and sociable dog.
|
|
|
Charlie loves attention and to be loved on. He is crate trained and uses a doggie door in his foster home. He is very dependably housebroken. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes but sometimes, when he really gets revved up, he can play a little rough with smaller dogs – like the poodle in his foster home.
Charlie is a great family dog and does well with children. He loves anyone who will play with him and he is very eager to please.

Charlie needs a very special family because he has recently been diagnosed with myasthenia gravis with accompanying megaesophagus. He is on medication for this and his foster mom reports that he is responding well. He has a 50% chance that this will go into remission. Otherwise he will need to be on meds for the rest of his life. The family who adopts Charlie will find that it is totally worth it! He is a very devoted and loving boy.
